I have always been fascinated by the occult and the supernatural. To me, these things expanded the limits of reality and possibility to potentially unlimited realms. Operating in that state of mind, it feels as if with just the right words and rituals you can do anything. The reasoning of why nebulous forces are able seeming able to bend the fabric of reality does not matter under such a lens; they just do.
However, this is something that runs counter to my current scientific background as an engineering student. Yet, all I have learned is that my knowledge is wanting. This causes a tension within me; I feel that when I understood less of the world, I could easily intuit the essence of things. Knowledge simply flowed. Yet now the more I learn, the less I comprehend.
I feel it is time to get back to basics, to return to the source of my fascination with the world. In part, I have merely started this book blog to get into the habit of reading for fun, something that I once did quite often but that now feels laborious due to the sheer amount of reading I have to do (although I may cover the occasional film as I also love watching films). The truer reason for starting this blog is the help resolve this tension in me, to help connect two different worlds that should ostensibly be operating on the same set of rules.
Another aspect I wish to capture in this project is my love for horror media. This is a genre where I try to get all I can from every work. I find horror provides a profound look into the human condition at its most bare. I believe that the feeling of fear comes from the most base of brain as an evolutionary warning. Understanding horror is thus a key step in evolution.
